Things I Have That I Don't Know What To Do With Now

1. The journal I stitched together out of old books
2. The mix tape I'd been mentally compiling all year and finally put together and made a cover for
3. The soft gray scarf I knitted for you
4. The big ink drawing of one of the broken houses we saw
5. Pet Sounds on vinyl

And Dance By the Light of the Moon...

"Let's go out in the fields and take off our shoes and walk through the grass. Then we can go up to the falls. It's beautiful up there in the moonlight, and there's a green pool up there, and we can, uh, s-swim in it. Then we can climb Mt. Bedford, and smell the pines and watch the sunrise against the peaks, and we'll stay up there the whole night, and everybody'll be talking and there'll be a terrific scandal!"

George Bailey, I'll love you till the day I die.

This is all I want. Isn't this all anyone wants?

Having a Coke With You
By Frank O'Hara

is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, IrĂșn, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne
or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona
partly because in your orange shirt you look like a better happier St. Sebastian
partly because of my love for you, partly because of your love for yoghurt
partly because of the fluorescent orange tulips around the birches
partly because of the secrecy our smiles take on before people and statuary
it is hard to believe when I’m with you that there can be anything as still
as solemn as unpleasantly definitive as statuary when right in front of it
in the warm New York 4 o’clock light we are drifting back and forth
between each other like a tree breathing through its spectacles
and the portrait show seems to have no faces in it at all, just paint
you suddenly wonder why in the world anyone ever did them
I look
at you and I would rather look at you than all the portraits in the world
except possibly for the Polish Rider occasionally and anyway it’s in the Frick
which thank heavens you haven’t gone to yet so we can go together the first time
and the fact that you move so beautifully more or less takes care of Futurism
just as at home I never think of the Nude Descending a Staircase or
at a rehearsal a single drawing of Leonardo or Michelangelo that used to wow me
and what good does all the research of the Impressionists do them
when they never got the right person to stand near the tree when the sun sank
or for that matter Marino Marini when he didn’t pick the rider as carefully
as the horse
it seems they were all cheated of some marvellous experience
which is not going to go wasted on me which is why I’m telling you about it

PS- Those are William Gedney's photos. He's rad. http://library.duke.edu/digitalcollections/gedney.SF0258/pg.1/

The Sunday Night Blues

I over-extended myself this weekend. I wish I had one more day to lay in bed and listen to this song over and over.

I love you Brian Wilson. I love you Pet Sounds.,

Baby, I'm bad news.

Fall is good for Rilo Kiley.

Fall is good for libraries, homemade applesauce, boots crunching leaves, long walks, nostalgia, and pumpkin beer.

MORE Unsolicited Dating Advice From Yours Truly!

Well... maybe not a ring. But dudes, keeping your lady-friends on edge about whether or not you're together after you've been dating more than a couple of months is super-lame. It's a bad idea that will only fuck things up in the future. On a related note, in all dating regards, please don't try to play it cool. "Cool" is over-rated. If you like a girl, she needs to know it! Not making that clear will not make you look better or more in control of the situation. It will only make her think you don't give a shit. And as a result she will stop giving a shit. I mean, don't be creepy or overbearing but be open. PLEASE. I know we all have baggage and dating is weird and confusing and we're scared of being rejected and hurt AGAIN but come on! You can do it!
I believe in you.

Sharon Jones and the DAP KINGS!

One of two really great (hopefully) shows I'm going to this week.
Sharon Jones is so incredibly bitchin. I can't wait to see her this weekend. I'm definitely wearing lots of sequins. It seems appropriate. This song seems appropriate. I suggest skipping the first 45 seconds.

Bat For Lashes - What's a Girl To Do

Dedicated to Bailey, who showed me this video about a million years ago. It feels like a million years ago.
It's sooo Shangri-Las, isn't it? Seriously, I wonder if Mary Weiss has seen this.
I love everything about it.

the way i feel inside

"From the time she is very young, all Plum wants is this: to be loved for who she is with complete and awesome devotion. She tries to dress herself the way she feels inside so that the love of her life will recognize her easily." -Francesca Lia Block

Summer Camp Monster

Here are some pictures of my favorite summer camp projects!

Mono-print totes from BEDAZZLE YOUR WORLD

LIGHT SABERS! Please note the rainbow saber and the one with pink and blue stripes.

Fashion Challenge and a mound o' fabric!

I really love teaching summer camp. It's inspiring and FUN to work with creative people and I have the opportunity to work with some really amazing artists. Sometimes I forget what a rad job it is and what incredible things the organization I work for does. Sometimes I turn into a summer camp MONSTER. But most of the time it's wonderful.

Speaking of monsters, I made a bunch of these felt monsters a long time ago. I just found them and am trying to decide what to do with them. They're really fun to make. Maybe they could become little monster puppets? I don't know! Let me know if you have any ideas!
Now that camp is over I need to focus on lesson planning for the new job which starts in exactly two weeks!

Yikes!,

home sick

I stayed home sick today which is something I almost never, ever, do. I hate staying home sick - especially when I spend most of the day sleeping. I like being productive and as manager at my work I realized today I really worry about making our numbers every week - it's only Tuesday and I am already worried!

But the good news about staying home is I had amble time to explore etsy.com and find my etsy favorite of the day!
Storm Kitty Handmade Fleece PillowPack Set of 3 - Princess Kitty, C3PO and R2K2

hellowars is my new favorite store. The selection is small but specific and awesome.

It combines my two favorite things in such a great great way.

Recommended for Tonight

(and every night...)

1. Build a fort.
2. Turn off all the lights except for your globe lamp.
3. put on your copy of "Between the Buttons".
4. Pretend you're Margot Tenenbaum.
5. Lay perfectly still and listen to this song on repeat.

Bonus points if you contact Brian Jones on the Ouija board.

I moved and now Michelle is blackmailing me into blogging.

No, seriously, she left a message on my facebook wall (cause this is the BEST place to blackmail people...you know, out in public for everyone to see) saying that if I didn't blog soon embarassing photos of me would end up on the blog.

At first I thought this would be fine, I would come back at her with embarassing photos of her but then I discovered...THERE ARE NONE! Michelle is fiercely photogenic and always stylish so it's really annoyingly hard to blackmail her.

With that being said, I am blogging. I move to Orange County, CA or THE OC as was once coined by a horrible tv show starring annoyingly pretty people.

The best part about this move so far involves Korean BBQ being really close by, a place called McClures which has "Dancing and Karaoke Nightly" (and some of the best cheese fries velveta has ever seen), and the copious amount of movies I have watched.

Right now, I am really obsessed with my iphone and it is starting to scare me. But seriously, look at these awesome photos it takes!!!

And I think more signs like this should exist...I can't remember where I found this but I LOVE it.

girls just want to have fun.

I think what everyone really wants is someone to have fun with. And all that other stuff just gets in the way.

And, um, not to state the obvious but I really want to be that girl with the sunglasses and the hula-hoop.

You Know You Wouldn't Want It Any Other Way

Dear Drag Queen at the Grey Fox Friday night,

Thanks for transporting me back to 1997 when I wore high ponytails, round glasses with little shapes etched into the frames, a Catholic school uniform, and sang this song with my sixth grade bffs on the playground.

Love,
Michelle

PS- Your dance moves were the best of all the drag queens.

A New Noise

"Right now I've been in this room in this city for so long I don't see it anymore and you know I'm not being stimulated. Lately I've just been doing a lot of cleaning inside my brain. My eyes are not seeing anything around me. So I've been dreaming a lot, recording dreams and trying to look within, but I'm not worried about it. I'm just waiting for the moment when I'll get to take a train or plane someplace and I know I'll spurt out because I've just got to see new things. I think Rimbaud said he needs new scenery and a new noise and I need that. " -Patti Smith

At least as alive as the vulgar

My Heart

I'm not going to cry all the time
nor shall I laugh all the time,
I don't prefer one "strain" to another.
I'd rather have the immediacy of a bad movie
not just a sleeper, but also the big,
overproduced first-run kind. I want to be
at least as alive as the vulgar. And if
some aficionado of my mess says "That's
not Frank!", all to the good! I
don't wear brown and grey suits all
the time,
do I? No. I wear work shirts
to the opera
often. I want my feet to be bare
I want my face to be shaven,
and my heart-
you can't plan on the heart but
the better part of it, my poetry,
is open

Frank O'Hara

I keep coming back to this one. Luv u, Frank!

Real Jobs + Summer

California - Los Angeles City - Santa Monica blue circus ferris wheel - amazing blue sky summer background
These photos are amazing!!!

I guess I am an adult now. This is something I would be much more okay with if adults had summers. I have a real job and it's totally putting a damper on my style, but this, I guess, is growing up.

I just want to go back to St. Louis this summer, and New York to see my sister, and San Diego to see my cousin and Shruti, and back to Portland, and finally see Austin, and maybe make it to Nashville....

Is that too much to ask?!?!

Flowers are Rad

I mean really, it's really hard to comprehend how flowers make such awesome colors!!! I went to the Garden Show at the LA Arboretum this weekend and holy crap guys, nature knows what it is doing when it comes to color. No joke.

Garden show 2

I only had my nifty little iPhone so I don't think these pictures even do justice to the colors there. It was insane.

Garden show

It also just made me want to own a little house, plant an awesome garden, and have very Alice like tea parties all the time. For now, I will settle for my vegetables grown in barrels and the park next door to work. But seriously. There will be tea parties and roses.

I'd Rather Be Free

Lately I've Been:
-putting on red lipstick when I'm home for the night.
-full of nostalgia.
-feeling brave.
-listening to records in the dark.
-eating lots of carrots.
-taking walks instead of sleeping.
-starting books and not finishing them.
-surprisingly satisfied with my work situation.
-buying lots of rompers.
-listening to this song nonstop.

In case you were wondering.
